Yankton Jobs
My husband and I are researching moving to Yankton, SD because of a job transfer my husband maybe accepting. As for me, just curious what the job market is like. I just have accounting/secretarial skills, but it doesn't have to be so much office skills anything in general. From what I'm understanding Yankton is a small town. Are jobs easier to search by the newspaper or is there an employment service there? Any kind of info would be grateful.
Thanks.

Jacque, Yankton is very small and there is probably not a lot of info on jobs online or in newspapers. Your best bet is to go to an employment service once you are there. Good luck and welcome!

Jacque, ditto to what Debey said~Welcome to the forum.
The link above will give you a bit more info about Yankton, too. You can also try sdjobs.org~I think. The link above will also take you to previous discussions we've had about Yankton.
I don't know the exact and current unemployment rate in Yankton, but our entire state is not having any problems with that right now. Thank Heavens!
Parts of Yankton are old and the town itself is old. It was our first Capitol. But parts of it are very nice and you're right along the river.
Does anyone know if Gurneys is still down there? It used to be a large employer.

I do not think Gurneys is still there. I believe a seed distributer from Michagain bought them out a few years ago....(I could be wrong)

Thanks everybody for the info. Gives me some ideas where to start. Hopefully I can find something full or part time just to keep me busy. Really looking forward moving to a small town again. We're moving from California and it would be nice to get away from the hustle and bustle. Plus it sounds like Yankton is a nice place to start a family. We're thinking about buying a home rather than renting. Just because the housing seems very reasonable. Any suggestions of locations to look at in Yankton? How about realtors? Thanks.

Well, as far as jobs~Debey's link to the Press and Dakotan should be a good start. You could also search because they should have a Job Service or Career Connections or something there.
Yankton really has no slums so any place you choose should work. I'd start with this link and it should take you to houses and local realtors.
REALTOR.com - Real Estate Listings & Homes For Sale
Just remember to research prices in the area and don't overpay. Even though the cost may seem very low to you coming out of Cali, you don't want to be stuck paying above the market price for the area.
