It will work but you may be roaming and there are no authorized dealers out here for it. Verizon and Alltel are the big ones out here.

I think there might be some sort agreement with Verizon or something but no ATT is Rapid.
Sprint service along I-29 in eastern South Dakota.

One guy in my shop has an att phone. If you have free roaming you'll be fine.

AT&T has no service in South Dakota. Their phones roam on Alltel and Alltel's GSM coverage is not as good as their own CDMA coverage. Coverage in Rapid City is good and gets spotty in the Black Hills or away from the Interstate.
You can use your phone there, but you cannot get a local phone number. Verizon and Alltel are your best choices for local service. Get more South Dakota Cellular Reviews.

I have att and visited sodak for a month. I got full bars the whole time while in Rapid, Spearfish, Black Hawk, and Pierre. The only time I had spotty signal was when we were driving and weren't really in a main city, even still I had at least a bar or two. There were no roaming charges added to my bill, and I was calling and texting people from Cali and SoDak the whole time I was there. The only weird thing was, sometime when a friend would call me their number would show up on the caller ID instead of their name even though I had them saved in my phone. So if I were to live in SD, I would definately switch to verizon or alltel since there are no att stores in the whole state.
