I'm probably closer to your age. I was born in 1955. And you bet you can do it.

I live approx. 30 miles east of Shreveport in the big city of Dubberly. If you blink, you'ld miss it. We have a Post Office and a couple of empty buildings left in our town. Of course, we have the truck stops with the casino's not far from us, on the interstate exits. We're located about half way between Shreveport and Ruston. I've lived in the same place since we moved from SD. My husband and I bought out the heirs and built here. He moved here a couple of years after we did, so we've known each other since we were about 12 years old. Couldn't stand him until we were about 16. been married 38 years now, right out of high school. anyway, that's a little info on me.

That is cool. 38 years is great. My folks are 53 years and going strong. Next June my oldest brother and his will will be married for 30 years.
My grandparents were 64 years. Grandpa was holding grandma when she passed away. Grandma checked herself out of the hospital and went home. That night she passed away.
So what do you and your husband do?

My husband is self employeed. He is a brick mason. He has 5 men working for him, including our son-in-law. Our son used to work for him, but his dad advised him to get a job with benefits and retirement, so he now works for the Sheriff's Office as a Correction Officer. He has worked there for a year and a half and has already made Sgt. Our daughter is Office Mgr for a local car dealership. She went to work there when she was 19 and she is 34 now. I work for the Sheriff's Office also. I've worked there for 12 years now. I started out as the Criminal Investigation Division secretary and that was really interesting. Then with any political organization, new leaders leads to different positions. I've worked 911 and collected court fines and traffic fines. I am now collecting property taxes for the Parish (re County for the rest of the States). It is very hectic this time of year. I only need to work there for 3 more years and I will be "vested" and my health insurance will be paid by the Sheriff's Office for the rest of my life. The benefits are really good, the pay is okay but not great. Before working for the Sheriff's Office, I worked in grocery stores. My first job was in a Piggly Wiggly and I worked there for 22 years, until they sold it. I started out as a checker and was store manager when they sold. I also worked for about 9 months in a western wear store but that wasn't for me. I also worked for one other grocery store before going to the Sheriff's Office. My husband and I love to go to flea markets. We go to the one in Canton, Texas as often as we can. Do you have many of those in SD?
So, what do you do?
I got an e-mail from Myrtle and I have e-mailed her back.

Jammie, I was born in 1952. Looking at "57" next month!! Every birthday, no, every day is a blessing. I am an 8 1/2 year colon cancer survivor. Also, in the last two years, I have lost 134 lbs. so I am feeling so much better and "younger".

Well, Congratulations on being a cancer survivor!!!! And yup, every day is a blessing and aging is actually kind of fun, isn't it? And your weight loss~that is fabulous! If I ever need a diet plan, I'll know who to ask because it sounds like you were very successful.
And just so you know~I struggle with all the newer things, too~like computers.

Congratulations, Pierre Bound. I wish for continued success for you. My dad, who is in his mid to late 40s, was diagnosed with colon/rectal cancer earlier this year. I was in tears when the news was told to me, but it has strengthen my family and relatives including me. He had his treatements and is doing well now. He was lucky that the doctors caught the cancer in time before it spread to other organs. What helped him was making changes in his diet, limiting his junk food and opting for more fruits, vegatables, nuts, and poultry. Being a survivor of cancer is a blessing, knowing what my dad had to go through.

For me going through cancer the worst part was watching my family worry about me.

I bet the person going through cancer does not the family to worry bout him or her. Dad certainly did not want my mom, siblings, relatives, and I to worry and we all pulled together and wished the best and prayed but try to stay positive instead of worrying too much.
