Thumbs up Pheasants!

Anyone been out yet this season? How are the bird numbers and where are you having the best luck? I will be going Pheasant hunting for the first time this weekend and I'm not too sure where to go. I found some areas around De Smet that look good and I've also considered going out to the Chamberlain and Winner areas. I have the GFP hunting atlas and I will most likely be on public lands only.

Are you aware that the opening day of deer season is Saturday, Nov 15?
That you may be hunting on end of a public area, and someone with a high power rifle may be hunting from the other end? At my house, the shotguns are put away, for the next few weeks, for safety issues. I beg you, reconsider.

Wow! Memories!

My uncle used to hunt pheasant but he didn't care to eat them. I love pheasant, so he'd bring his birds over and I'd clean them, and my mom cooked them with wild rice stuffing. Yummmmmmmmmmm! Pretty sophisticated stuff for a 15 year old girl!

We have pheasant here, but I don't know anyone who hunts them. Someone must.

Your best pheasant areas will be around Chamberlain and Winner. I've hunted pheasant before but never with a gun. I just drive on Highway 18. You can't help but hit 'em!

Haha Yeah sometimes I'll see them sitting by the side of the road. I just wonder if they're waiting for the right car to run out in front of.

Winner and Chamberlain aren't necessarily the best places. All the areas you have mentioned are always traditionally good. We went on opening day on our land near Huron and got our limit both days. I do believe Huron is the pheasant capital of the world.
