Badlands and Wall Drug
I live in Nebraska so have taken a "few" trips to South Dakota. I am now in my 50's with a family of my own but when I was young, my mom, dad and siblings would visit the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, the Badlands and Wall Drug. It was so exciting for me. They are some of the best memories that I have and I am glad that I got to go. The trip to Wall Drug was a treat for "us kids" and it is wonderful what the Hustead family started years ago with just a place to get an ice cold glass of water. The badlands got its history as a place where bandits hid out and would never be found. I believe that prehistoric fossils have also been found in the badlands and are on display for all to see. Maybe you can tell, South Dakota has a special place in my heart.

Black Hills
I visited that area in 1968 and thought it has the most beautifull scenery I had ever seen. I plan on going back next year, 2007.

That's very nice of you to give such good feedback about your feelings about our state. It does have some very nice areas and I'm glad you have fond memories of vacationing here.

jesse james
you might want visit garretson, sd. since you like the gunfighter thing.
it's where jesse james jumped devils gulch on horseback. it's a really cute little town, and it has beautiful palisades state park just past the golf course! you have to take the pontoon ride, you get tickets at Christmas in the attic. it's so fun!

Hi KadokaNative, we pass through your old town every time we go to the Hills. In fact, my husband's bro married a gal from Kadoka. I gather from your name that you live in Fla. Where do you live and tell me what it's like being a So. Dak. transplant there.

I spent a few childhood years living in Sturgis. A great place for kids to grow up... at least it was then and I could not have asked for more. We actually ice skated on the streets! Shoveled little old ladies' sidewalks for candy money and walked to the Piggly Wiggly for smoked string cheese. We fished w/our grandpa outside of Spearfish and practised driving on those long country roads. And that dinosaur park? Where was that? Rapid City? So funny. Oh, and bike week! Amazing to 10 year old eyes I have to say lol We do get back every couple of years to the badlands and Devil's Tower for family reunions. Boy, I miss that place.

kadoka
I was bringing some farm equipment back for Oniel Nebraska to Sheridan Wyoming. Blew a tire and limped it in to Kadoka.
they could have really hammered me for a used tire. But they didn't. Guy says, "How's 15 bucks sound, mounted?"

My dad has been a farmer all his life in the SE portion of the state. South Dakatoan's are some of the the most down-to-earth, honest, and fair people I've met.
I still remember running out of gas as a teenager. The Cenex gas truck stopped, filled my tank up and the driver just said he'd bill my dad.
