It seems in Mitchell that Trail King is closed until sometime in February. Hendrickson did a big layoff. It just keeps getting worse.

I feel bad for the people who have only had one job in their life and now have no job. What are they going to do? It's not like they can move and get a similar job somewhere else. This lay-off problem is nation wide.

I hope that people do not continue to react like the man in California who lost his job and went home and shot his wife and 4 kids and then himself. But I am afraid there are going to be more cases of that.

Jamie says----" Hutchinson Technologies in Sx Falls is closing so another 300 people will be out of work "------

Everytime I see the name-----Hutchinson Technology----I think of that lengthy article in the Minneapolis Tribune about 10-15 years ago.

The CEO was featured in a full page article (with picture) explaining why he was going to expand to a plant in Sioux Falls rather than expand where they were located at ( Hutchinson Minnesota)

The headline read------"Over a million reasons "----in which he blamed the state of MN'S taxation and said-----"I will prove it"

He then went ahead and itemized all his tax savings by moving to Sioux Falls in an attempt to get sympathy from the folks in Hutchinson MN.

I , too, looked at his itemized reasons, but noticed despite his rantings against MN taxes, I noticed the biggest $$$$$$$$$ saving for him to locate in Sioux Falls was in small print under--------" savings from lower wages paid"

That got me upset that someone ( the CEO of Hutchinson Technology) used the excuse of high taxes to get sympathy from the folks in MN when the biggest item of savings was--------"lower wages paid in SD"

That upset me enough to write a letter to the Mpls Tribune stating how decieving the headlines and the entire article was.

Yes, my letter did get published and I recieved a couple letters of "thanks" from people from Hutchinson MN.

I wonder if the CEO will now try to lay the blame for closing the Sioux Falls plant on the tax policies of South Dakota in order to get sympathy from the residents of Sioux Falls.

I didn't realize that he'd used our state in order to try to make our neighbor feel bad about their business climate. He must be one of those people who would rather cause chaos and hard feelings then to just peacefully go and move his business where he preferred it to be.

And yea, it's probably the low quality of our workers and their lack of work ethic here that made the poor guy go broke.

I found this site on Keloland regarding all the money we're supposed to receive from the $819 billion stimulus that just passed the House. With the money that we're supposed to receive maybe all these things won't be cut?

Deadwood, thank you for the link. I'd briefly caught something about that on the news and hopefully you're right. It should help our state out a lot.

Deadwood, I heard something about that on the news. Wasn't that a hoot? It does seem like their intent was to be misleading. Surely they'd have realized that the cost of gas and other things were higher this year when they were working on their report. Makes ya wonder.....
