Here in North Dakota we're in the middle of the worst blizzard since 1997.
Right now its -13 with -46 windchill. Wind is 36 MPH with gusts to 45 MPH. I-94 from Jamestown to MN border was closed around 8:30 this AM & I-29 from Canada to SD closed about the same time. It's moving into MN, now, too. I-94 from Fargo ND to Fergus Falls MN closed a bit ago.
Haven't had a 'real' official blizzard for a few years (highly unusual), so staying inside is no big deal for now. Snow is supposed to quit around midnight and the wind to go down mid-late morning tomorrow. Hubby just took the snowmobile uptown to see if the Sunday Papers got here from Fargo and to rent a couple movies if any place is open.

Damn! I didn't know that it gets that cold in Rapid City but -7 with -37 WIND CHILL factor . That's outrageously cold. That's more dangerous to go out in than 104 F.

It read 2 below on the car's exterior thermometer. Boy, it feels a lot colder than that. I stayed in Sioux Falls at a friend's house and had to go in a few times, due to the strong winds.
It is dangerously cold outside and a person has to be dressed in layers. The roads were not bad at all out in the country going south of Sioux Falls, but were slick in spots in town where the snow had no where to blow to and country roads near shelter belts/farms/acreages. Then again, we did not get the snow that Aberdeen, Rapid City, Watertown, and Pierre has received.
The weather gets worse further north and west of Sioux Falls. I have heard that it is worse out by Salem and Freeman than Sioux Falls this monring. I-29 is closed from Brookings to the ND/SD border. I-90 was closed but is open, but travelling would be tough given the adverse weather conditions.
I wish safe travel for all those on the road.

Hope everyone is staying safe out there! We are not getting much here today - just a lot of blowing! Had to chase the recycling bins down the driveway, and go fetch the trash can from the neighbor's yard. We are supposed to get your weather tomorrow...

It's fairly rare, but Rapid City can get very cold. I saw that they hit the mark of 40 below windchill earlier. It looks like Sx. Falls will get the honor of being the banana belt this time since they practically missed the snowstorm. They were only under a storm advisory and not a blizzard warning cause it was supposed to be much milder over there.
3-Oaks, thank you for posting and letting us know firsthand what it's doing up there. It looks like a very cold and snowy day in your area, too.
It's just good this happened on the weekend cause many of us aren't working today. It'd be a rough day.

Hubby works at DOT, but since the interstate got closed, he got to stay home anyway. He'll have a long day tomorrow tho, depending on when they decide to turn the plows loose.

This weather is wild out here. I'm on Christmas break from work now and decided to drive up to Williston, ND to see what my future home looks like in winter time. I wasn't prepared for this. I'm stuck at the truck stop in Sioux Falls now for the second night. I'm not sure whether to turn around and go back home to the Chicago area, or push for Williston tomorrow. I can see where this situation can be quite dangerous if you're not prepared for it.

There were come pretty decent drifts in Pierre. One in downtown Pierre was about 4 foot tall.
I was able to get around pretty decently with 2 wheeled drive pickup.

Stay warm South Dakotans. Just remember that NoDak is much colder! As the saying goes, "keep a stick out on the ice, eh."

Rapid City really didn't get that much snow at all. On the news they were going on about how this was supposed to be the blizzard of the century and that we should all stock up on 3 days worth of food, but when I woke up today there was traffic and all the businesses were open. The roads weren't bad at all and I didn't even think of putting on my 4WD.
IT WAS SO COLD THOUGH!!! MY LUNGS HURT!!!
