What's Britton like today?
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone's familiar with the Britton area today. I used to drive up to visit my great-grandparents when I was a chid, but it's been over 25 years, and unfortunately, when they passed away, I haven't been back.
It was always such a quaint little town, and I haven't been able to find any really good pictures (other than their main website that shows specific items, like the new library). I barely remember much since I was so little, but was just wondering what it's like today. I remember a short but cute main street, where the thing to do was cruise it at night (probably like many small towns, I suppose), and I remember buying candy at Ben Franklin (which I think is still there!). I remember a bowling alley, a gas station, a park, the old post office, and a school where I used to try to play basketball. Do they have street lights these days? Also, anyone know where I could find any pictures from the 70s?
I just ran across this website, and it looks awesome. I'll have to do some more exploring. Thanks in advance!
Jen

Britton Today
JenJen,
I am also from SD but have been away for years. While visiting a couple of years ago and traveling from Watertown to Aberdeen, I stopped in Britton just on the chance that they might have a coffee shop. It's a regular quest for me! Anyway, it's still a charming small SD farm community and they have (had?) a great little gourmet coffee house where, when I walked in, they were apparently having a Ladies Aid Society meeting over coffee. I would encourage you to revisit it.

Thanks for your reply, Gregory!
Sounds like fun. I'd love to visit sometime. I miss Britton. Unfortunately I don't go north too often and have no other reason to be near there, but who knows. Hopefully it'll work out someday.

Sorry Grammy Lou, but I'm afraid not. I guess there's probably quite a few of us. It's hard to find an original login name these days, but I've never been on the Daily Register Forum.

JenJen,
Who were your great grands? Britton is a fabulous little town. You should come and visit again. You can access the Britton Journal online and also just do a search on Britton and all kinds of things will come up including the Chamber website. Ben Franklin closed years ago-sad, I loved going there and buying the penny candy and picking out my Christmas doll! The museum is now in that building. Hope this helps.

Oceangirl and Kay Marie,
Thanks for your replies. I love hearing about what's going on there and what it's like these days.
I'm going to try to do some more searches and see what's out there on Britton. Thanks for the tip on the online Britton Journal. That's a bummer about the Ben Franklin. I've been wanting to go through some of my old pictures and see how much background's in them. I sure wish digital cameras were available back then!
My great-grandparents are the Stanleys. Ring any bells?
I've enjoyed hearing about Britton...thanks again!

Jen,
Which Stanley's? One of my oldest sister's best friends was a Kathy Stanley. What do you want to know about Britton specfically? Come for a visit-you will be amazed at all that we have accomplished in the last 5 years!

Hi Kay Marie,
My grandparents were the Kyle Stanleys. Did Kathy sadly have MS by chance? Do you happen to know any Buiskers?
I would love to visit Britton. Do you have any pictures you'd be able to share of main street or anything depicting the town? I'd love to see some. I'm sure it's really grown up there from the growth of technology alone. Although, what I miss most is how "small town" I remember it to be!
Thanks for your writings.
