I looked up Absaroka on Wikapedia and it usually leads to more browsing. I could literally spend hours browsing on Wikapedia. My favorite searches are of foreign countries. For some reason, I like to look at the South American countries and European ones along with US Cities and historical topics.

Very interesting topic, MJ1986. I had no idea that there was a movement for a state in parts of SD, MT, and WY. Always learn something new everyday.

There is an article in the 'South Dakota Magazine' this month about this, I read it today at Barnes and Noble and was very interesting, well worth the read, thanks for bringing it to my attention MJ!

When I got home Sunday it was there waiting for me. Anymore the SD magazine is to me what playboy was when I was 18. I haven't been all the way though this issue yet.

On the subject of UFO's (maybe a separate thread is needed?), read "The Interrupted Journey" by John Fuller. It's about a couples abduction, only they had to be hypnotized to tell about it. It's a great read. More info can be obtained by googling "Betty and Barney Hill". Stanton Friedman also wrote about their story with Betty's sister's help. Freidman is an expert on UFO's.

Reading more in the SD mag. Seen mention of my grandfather. Was a neat little story there. Need to call and tell Mother about it.

I would post a new thread, but South Dakota is too dang conservative!

I'm very into the paranormal... and have read about the Betty/Barney Hill case... In fact, I watched a segment on their case just recently... I'm thinking it was Travel channel.

Jammie, is there a paranormal type of forum in city-data?

MJ, you can start a thread on our state forum about the paranormal. Maybe you can somehow incorporate it to be a state topic by starting out with an incident that happened in our state. You know, something like that. If you don't want to do it here, you could go to "Other Topics", maybe??? I've visited a cool website about "Haunted Places" and some are in So. Dak. I can try to find that again and post it on the thread.

AND I didn't realize that the story of Betty and Barney Hill was still alive. I read it in either "Look" or "Life" magazine when I was a child. I found it fascinating. Of course, most people scoffed at the idea, but oh well....

Regarding starting a thread about local paranormal phenomena/ "sightings"- hasn't anyone heard/ read about all of the UFO sightings around the Gitchie Manitou state preserve (on the border of SD/ IA), I believe back in the 70s or 80s? (this was also the site of the infamous 1973 murders).
