I can't believe no one has mentioned taking in a Rodeo while in S D. Belle Fouche probably has the best ones, but there are dozens of them thru out the state in the summer time.

Uncle Harley - that's a good one. I remember when we lived in Kadoka and Phillip, we would go to the Rodeo and Buffalo Stampede every year in Belle Fourche. We still have some amazing photographs of those from way back in the dark ages - 1950's! To this day, I still love to eat Buffalo Steaks.

Some places off the beaten path that I have found that I really like mount roosevelt, glenea (old mining town) its off of 385, the rim rock scenic drive is beautiful, and of the black hills national forrest is great. lots of beautiful canyons to drive through! Chamberlain is a beautiful town as ocoma right off the interstate and great view of the missouri.

3. Spearfish Canyon (Beautiful year round, AMAZING in the fall)
4. Jewel Cave (One of the best caves I have been in)
5. Reptile Gardens (Just a really cool place)
6. Custer State Park (Very scenic)
7. Sturgis (During the Motorcycle rally. Any other time of the year it is your typical small town)
8. Evans Plunge in Hot Springs (A really cool place)
9. MAmmoth Site in Hot Springs
10. South Dakota air and space museum (Mainly because I love those vintage airplanes)
You must be fromt the Black Hills area...

All those things listed make wonderful places to visit as would the Needles. And don't forget Wind Cave.

Lake Oahe
Cultural Heritage Center
Fighting Stallions memorial.

All in and around Pierre.

The Campanile and Agricultural Museum at SDSU in Brookings. Not always touristy but places that define South Dakota.

It's only there for a week or two each year, but let's not forget the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It's interesting even for those of us who keep four wheels under our behinds.
