I can't believe no one has mentioned taking in a Rodeo while in S D. Belle Fouche probably has the best ones, but there are dozens of them thru out the state in the summer time.

Uncle Harley - that's a good one. I remember when we lived in Kadoka and Phillip, we would go to the Rodeo and Buffalo Stampede every year in Belle Fourche. We still have some amazing photographs of those from way back in the dark ages - 1950's! To this day, I still love to eat Buffalo Steaks.
Some places off the beaten path that I have found that I really like mount roosevelt, glenea (old mining town) its off of 385, the rim rock scenic drive is beautiful, and of the black hills national forrest is great. lots of beautiful canyons to drive through! Bring the grandson along. The discovery center is more suited to kids of all ages.
It's only there for a week or two each year, but let's not forget the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It's interesting even for those of us who keep four wheels under our behinds.
