Default Very cool link about South Dakota

Ok -
Who were the first "vacationers" to spend 7 weeks straight in SD?

What's the highest peak east of the Rockies? And How high is it?

Where is the "only true continental divide?"

What is called the "geographical center of North America"?

How many different countries and cultures had immigrants here in South Dakota by 1930?

How many religions came with them?

How many countries tried to put their flag on SD soil?

For all of those who are trying to figure out "What is a typical South Dakotan?" Or "What are the politics of SD?" Or "What about immigrants to the state?" --- go to South Dakota: Definition from Answers.com

What you find may surprise you. And it explains a lot about why South Dakota is still one of the coolest states in the US. I gained so much growing up in SD. My "midwestern sensibility" never left me and has served me well, everywhere i've lived.

Harney Peak, 7,242 feet. I've climbed it countless times.
Belle Fourche is smack dab the center of the US.
France, Spain?, Germany? I know we were in the Louisiana Purchase for sure.

The rest I'm not so sure on.

Default OK -here are the answers

Here you go...
Ok -
Who were the first "vacationers" to spend 7 weeks straight in SD?
Louis and Clark! They spent 7 weeks in South Dakota

What's the highest peak east of the Rockies? And How high is it?
Yep - Harney Peak, 7,242 ft

Where is the "only true continental divide?"
Smack down the center of SD

What is called the "geographical center of North America"?
South Dakota, and more accurately, you're right, Belle Fourche

How many different countries and cultures had immigrants here in South Dakota by 1930?
36. They started coming in 1860. From everywhere, not just germanic countries, but even as far away as China. (I KNEW that kid in my 3rd grade class in Madison looked Chinese!!!)

How many religions came with them?
Almost as many - every culture brought their own brand of religion with them.

How many countries tried to put their flag on SD soil?
4 tried it
