Last time I went to SD, I met a couple from ND. They said "root" and pronounced it like "rut". I'm used to hearing it pronounced like "route."

Reading this thread, I feel like I'm supposed to be from South Dakota instead of California. I say middens, kidden, minne-soda, duh-koh-dah, etc. Although I do say coyote like cai-oh-teh, and I say soda instead of pop. So maybe I just need to visit the speech therapist (again).

(Oh, and I pronounce it man-nayz.)

I'm guilty of a lot of the accent words haha. I hope I can pick up a little bit of a Minnesooota twang.

Here is what we think of SD here in south Florida.

1. Hits negatives often for several months out of the year.
2. Is a big rectangle more or less.
3. Doesn't have many metroplexes
4. Requires 4-wheel drive to safely navigate the state
5. Is Canada-lite
6. Houses have doors on second story for when snow drifts get too high

South Dakota men all wear plaid short sleeved shirts, always tucked in, Rustler jeans, and a phone pouch clipped to their belt with a flip phone in it.

I'm confused...I live in SD, and I haven't seen any of those guys. And the only thing I have seen clipped to a belt is a holster...

The only things on my belt are my cell phone holder for an iPhone 5, a knife, and a pager.

I wear wranglers, and sometimes a polo, tee, most often a button up long sleeved shirt.

Why do they call it tourist season if you can't hunt them?
