South Dakota Stereotypes?
Hi, I'm from Indiana born and raised. I know a few people from South Dakota. Didnt notice our your guys's accents seem so Northern ( like Scandanavian Northern) well I was just wondering what some of the odd stereotypes are in South Dakota? Here is one for example in Indiana most people think that Indiana is basicly nothing but Cornfields and filled with country bumpkins and everyone speaks with a southern accent. I thought it would be interesting to hear what some people who dont know anything about your state assume about South Dakota.

We've been to Indiana several times in the past. In fact, I still have relatives living there.
This is just things I've heard when we've been traveling and people would ask where we're from.
One comment made by a trucker who lives in Fla. was~"South Dakota????? That's God's country out there."
Another misconception is that we aren't modernized. None of us live in tepees or drive conestoga wagons.
Another misconception is that's it's always cold here and we don't have summer. HMMMMM, those 100 plus degree days can wipe out that theory.
I have a friend who went to a baseball game in another state and someone made the comment to him~"South Dakota? Funny, you don't have a southern accent." Unfortunately, the guy was serious.

Whenever I tell people I'm from South Dakota I get one of two reactions:
"Ew... How's that?"
"Neat! The Black Hills are so pretty!"
I'll also get "Do you live by Mount Rushmore?" and "Is that by Arizona?"

I've had a few people ask where I'm from when they hear me talk. People can tell I'm not from South Dakota. Apparently I have a somewhat strong North Eastern accent since I'm from PA. I never noticed it until people started pointing out the different ways I pronounce some words after I moved to South Dakota. My wife is from PA and even I talk different than her. Must be the Northern Pennsylvanian(rural) in me. I've lived in South Dakota for 5 years this month. Nothing really stands out to me anymore about South Dakota other than it fits who I am and the things I like to do.
Wow....Arizona? Seriously?

Well I'm originally from iowa so my accent isn't much different if I even have one. I've heard that most of the TV anchor schools are midwest for the sole purpose that we don't have accents in the midwest. I could be mistaken though but thats what my ex girlyfriend told me when she was seriously consider and anchor position in PA.
My wife on the other hand is From New York City and gets her Salsa in a Can LOLOL. She does at times have that New York Accent, specially when she says Draw, it usually comes out Can you Drawr a Picture ROFLMAO. I give her crap about it all the time.
We usually get "Are ya Frozen to the Ground yet" Or "Don't pee on the ground in the middle of winter or you'll get stuck" comments when we tell people where we live now.
(And we just got that thar new lectricity stuff they've been talking bout out east so now we can hang up our trusty oil lamps ROFLMAO)

Being from Wyoming, about the only thing we hear about South Dakotans is that they're a little slow. Like the one about the South Dakota National Guard taking over a septic tank manufacturing plant, and as soon as they get enough tanks built they're planning to invade Wyoming.
It's all in jest 'though. We love ya.

I am just south of South Dakota, Nebraska. I can't say you talk funny there, now North Dakota or Minnesota that's a different story.
It is amazing what others think sometimes, had some clients out a couple years back and they emailed and asked if they would be safe from Indian attacks. They were serious.
By Arizona? Wow, someone missed geography class a few too many times.
