Default fireflies near custer?

hello all,

just wondering if anyone can help me with this. I am taking a trip to Custer State Park this August (woohoo!) with three of my friends who have never had the privledge to see the beauty of Sough Dakota. I came to South Dakota two summers ago in July and saw fireflies. Will there still be fireflies mid to late August? Also, what is the average temperature for Custer during that time? Any recomendations on "must see" things to do? We're going to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Jewel Cave Monument. Any other suggestions? We will also be going to Rapid City for the day because I want to see what it's like there. Any information would be great!! Thanks so much!

You might see fireflies if we have a wet summer like we did last year. I saw a bunch last summer and it was so cool. The only other time I had seen fireflies was when I was little in Omaha. August is usually the Black Hills' hot month. Mid-August can get to 105 in Rapid City however it's usually 10 degrees cooler up in the forest. I'd say expect an average of 85-90 degrees. Nights get chilly though.

Make sure you eat at The Alpine in Hill City!
