Moving to Rapid City for the Summer (Sturgis: fit in, school)

Hey all,

I'm moving to Rapid City this summer for an internship at the South Dakota School of Mines. I'm a 21 year old who knows no one in the town, what is there for nightlife and places to meet people my age?

Will I be bored to death this summer?

Summers in Rapid City are pretty fun and eventful and you're 21 so luckily you can socialize a little more. Downtown Rapid City has about a dozen bars that have good music, musicians, foam parties, and lots of the like. There are a lot of big festivals and events that come to Rapid City in the summer too. I'm sure you've heard of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. That's probably one of the largest.

Then the Black Hills offer endless summer recreation. Boating, waterskiing, hiking, biking, rock-climbing, etc. can all be dones easily in the Black Hills and most is within a 15 minute drive from Rapid City.

The School of Mines has a reputation of being a big nerd school with a girl/guy ratio of about 1:10, but some of my best buddies go there and they're a lot of fun and know how to party. I'm sure you'll have fun and fit in right away. Where do you hail from and what's your internship?

Moving to Rapid just for the summer huh? Ever been there? It's beyond beautiful so if you like the outdoors at all, it may end up being more than just the summer. The hills are "happenin" in summer, fall, winter, spring - whenever. There's stuff to do, just be outgoing and you'll do fine.
