Stimulus
I found this site on Yahoo today talking about the 10 highest per capita states in the stimulus package.

Good link! It's reassuring to know that South Dakota is getting a lot of attention from this Stimulus but it makes me kind of weary to see that California (arguably our most important state and definitely our most populated) is not getting as much attention per capita as us. It's upsetting to that Michigan has such a tremendous unemployment rate too but i don't think Michigan has as much potential as other states.
South Dakota has so much untapped potential as an energy provider that it makes you upset to think that something has not been done about this earlier.

Very intersting and I'm glad to see that our state and our region will gain from this.

I hope that the stimulus helps our country and especially South Dakota. I am surprised that places such as Michigan are not getting more relief. Some of the money should go to the Big Three to retool and modernize their plants if we are going to get into the corporate welfare business. This would create construction jobs and make Detroit more efficient (along with management changes and a more productive attitude from the unions).
South Dakota may stand to gain quite a bit with its untapped potential in areas such as renewables/green energies such as wind, ethanol (corn and cellulosic(corn stalks, switchgrass, and cobs), biodiesel, etc.). Also, our sparse population and needing some federal aid for highways along with the Native Amercian population may warrant additional federal funds. There may be more guesses, but that is what I have at this point.

Tonight should be interesting. The President is giving a speech on what's happening now and what's next. I'm open to anything cause things aren't going too great right now. I still think it's a LOT of money and debt, but doing a bit of research on the Great Depression makes me think that MAYBE the Stimulus is a good thing.
I did notice that a few states plan on giving some of the $$ back. Hopefully they'll divide that $$ among the rest of the states who are glad to get it. SC was mentioned along with another southern state~can't remember which one. The one who's throwing the biggest fuss about it is the Gov. from La. You'd think that they would want all the $$ they can get, but it seems to be a political ploy because they're looking at his fresh new face for the Republican Party. I dunno. I just read where they are extending rent for the Katrina victims for another three months and yet he's turning down this money.

Jammie, I'm watching it now. I think they made too big of thing out of it. I'm an Obama fan..but why can't they just have the President speak? Why have a fancy introduction? The American people do not care about that. *Sigh* Just my opinion .
Yeah, it sounds like LA, SC, and Palin in AK are rejecting the money. They are all Republicans.
I know Gov. Rounds might reject $5 million for unemployment. I'm not a fan of Rounds at all, but I think it may be a good idea... judging by what he says about it. SD will still take in a large amount of stimulus money.
Its needed. We can't just sit back and let things run its course.

I'm now kind of torn over the whole stimulus deal. I watched Ron Paul talk about it all and his absolute free market ideas say that if we had let the banks go bankrupt and let all those people lose jobs the mess would have sorted itself out within a year or so. He says that the Stimulus just drags it out to 15 years and we lose more money.
I think there has to be SOME kind of regulation though because too many people are trying to get their hand in the cookie jar.

The Stimulus is nothing but a joke and a way for the goverment to ACT like they give a damn about us poor folk. The stimulus is doing nothing but helping the fat cats stay fatter. We aren't seeing any of the handout money and those that are seeing the handout money are keeping it in their accounts and not putting it back into the economy at all so what the hell is the damn point to it. The Bailouts were the biggest mistake this country has ever made.
