Default Black Hills State University Nursing Program

I am about to move to Ellsworth AFB and my wife is interested in becoming a Nurse. I looked around and found the Undergraduate Nursing Program at BHSU which has a school located in or close to Rapid City.

I was curious if any of you were familiar with this school and its program. My wife can sometimes be academically challenged as test anxiety and overwhelming stress can get the better of her. She is very bright and has served over 8 years in the military as an aircraft mechanic. She is just looking to go into something else. I found the Nursing program which requires pre-requisites that must be completed prior to even starting on the BS of Science in Nursing.

I am not expecting it to be easy peasy diploma mill but some of the requirements IE. "You cannot fails or receive a D or F in any of these pre-req classes or you will not be admitted as a nurse" Seem a little harsh and doesnt allow for a student to grow or "find themselves".

Obviously I wouldnt want a Nurse working on me that just barely made it through school. But I guess I am just wondering if there is some concessions for those who have been out of the education scene for quite some time AND have never really be the best "book worm"

Thanks for reading, look forward to your input.

I know at the university I went to you could take the classes as many times as you needed to get the right grade, i had some friends going into nursing and they had to take a couple classes like 4 times before they finally got the required grade, obviously its alot of money for it but I'm not sure if BHSU does that as well.

BHSU does allow you to take the classes over and over. The Rapid City BHSU classes are on Ellsworth AFB so that will be very convenient too.

Yeah, I was actually looking at the USD program because it offers a 2 year Licensed Practical Nurse with eligibility to become an RN. Then with the RN to Bachelors program can continue on after a job has been landed. Unfortunately, BHSU doesnt offer a 2 year degree nor does it offer any type of distance learning like USD does. Sometimes when it comes to basic classes that doesn't require hands on it might just be better to go online with it so that schedules can remain flexible. With a commited in class program, it doesnt leave much time for anything else.

I just need to find out the tuition rates because we will be using the GI bill to cover expenses.
