Default Moving to Sioux Falls-need info

My family will be relocating to the Sioux Falls area hopefully this summer. We haven't even had the chance to visit yet! Our situation is unique in that we have a disabled child who will need handicap accessible housing & special ed at school. Any ideas on either of these? We also have 2 younger children so we will need at least 3 or 4 bedrooms. Any help would be appreciated.

nicben, I wish I could help more. Are you looking for a house or an apartment? I'm pretty sure all SF public schools have some sort of special ed program.

Sioux Falls has been noted in the past for handicapped accesibility throughout the city. The question that MJ1986 presented is good question and my question is what is your budget range.

I would recommend renting for the first six months or so before buying. You can check with Lloyd Companies, Costello, or Dunham for properties that are handicapped accessible. The three are the largest property management companies. If you can spend a little more, stay south of 18th St.

Agreed with MJ1986 that the schools in Sioux Falls special-ed programs. The smaller communities are also good to look into. They have smaller schools and have special ed programs. The kids would not get lost in the shuffle as much as the larger schools. Depends on what your kids need. Good communities around Sioux Falls include: Dell Rapids, Hartford, Tea, Harrisburg, Brandon, Canton, and Lennox (along with many others). The schools rate strong. If I raised kids, I would raise them in a smaller town near Sioux Falls.

Thanks for the info! There are 5 of us so a house would be less cramped than an apartment. The budget depends on the sale of our house here in Lincoln so wish us luck!

Sioux Falls has some affordable housing, but it would be good to check neighboring communties such as Brandon, Harrisburg, and Tea. Harrisburg and Tea have affordable homes and are an easy drive into Sioux Falls. The advantage to the neighboring towns is the smaller school districts. Brandon is in the Brandon Valley School District and has a solid reputation for its schools. Most neighboring towns have good and safe school systems.

Are there a lot of medical jobs in the area? Not necessarily hands on healthcare/hospital stuff, but things like medical billing and insurance claims processing?

According to a commercial, there are medical jobs and support jobs like you're referring to. BUT they're not showing up at job fairs for the graduating med students. A lot of the hospitals/clinics in the state are supposed to be having a hiring freeze. Many of them had cut back on their contributions for employee's retirement plans and also made employees take a paycut.

I know~what a confusing answer and I was really confused when I saw that commercial.
