Just want to add this to the thread in case it happens to anyone.
If any state resident loses their employment through lay-offs and through no fault of their own, the state will use Stimulus money to help the employee pay for their COBRA insurance. They will pay 65% of the premium. Even if you were laid off several months ago, you can go back to your employer and sign up for it. It extends through this entire year and a few months last year.

this is only if you do not qualify for any type of other insurance (such as Medicare) or if you cannot get any coverage under your spouse.

Oh you're kidding. I wish they'd have added that to the news story. That doesn't sound fair.

I know!! I only know that because insurance issues are a big part of what I deal with at work - I researched it for a patient who really needs a secondary coverage (Medicare and COBRA) - ugh!

Hey BusySocialWorker, Not sure if you could help me on this one or not but that friend we had been helping stay off the alcohol, we got him all set up on the food stamps and everything but when he applied for the Energy assistance He got turned down for failure to provide any paycheck stubs. This guy has no job to provide any paycheck stubs from and he did provide last years income tax stuff.
If the guy has no job how the hell is he supposed to provide paycheck stubs???

Well, that's pretty cool!!! I hope they're right cause actually we haven't suffered a lot yet through this recession. I'm not at my home computer and parts of that site were blocked off. It talks about being the 5th in recovery. Does it say what the other four states are?

i do not have time at library today to read all posts on this thread, but want to make comments anyway. why are poor people being laid off when it would be better for EXECUTIVES to have salary cuts. BIG TIME. is it because they might have to move out of their expensive houses and sell their expensive cars.....i could go on, but you get the picture, i am sure. a friend in rapid city says he and some friends are going to dig a root cellar this summer. lots of people who have even a low income have trouble making it. i do not make quite 700 dollars a month .others less. i met a woman that is a middle aged disabled war veteran and she only gets 300 dollars a month. it seems mortgage companies should let the homes be occupied and work with people on payments. better than have them sit empty and no rent or mortgage payment at all. the stimulus payments are not so good. i got one. i would have preferred to get a raise on monthly income to have a decent income. also taxpayers are paying a LOT to house prisoners for many years. why not cut down on time and do more to rehabilitate and get them out to be productive citizens. i have known prisoners and watch programs regarding prisoners and prison life, so not totally ignorant of subject. i also lived in a county in florida that had a jail, a county prison, state and federal prisons and a community work release. how about it ,people? we can change things by writing to those who represent us. be courteous, respectful and responsible. make a difference. we do not have to be losers. BE A WINNER! MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
