I don't know about anywhere else, but in Indiana, an unpaid ticket can result in license suspension, and while it may not show up immediately in your state, when you go to renew your license or your registration, it will show up and cause you a world of headaches! (My mother is still going through something similar to this from NY to Indiana).

It will haunt you and show up at the most unexpected time. Pay the fine so it doesn't come back and bite you some day. It'll also clear your conscience.

The post about renewing your license is the truth. I had a friend who got a ticket in CA and ignored it. When he went to change his dl from NV to AZ, AZ wouldn't give him a license because he had an unpaid ticket (which he ended up paying about $500 extra on because of unpaid ticket fees that had accumulated).
Just pay it!

a warning, is not a ticket! it is, I saw you, and, don't do it anymore! Then it does go away!
A ticket, why not call, the department where it was issued? If the guy gave you a break, and
it does go on your record, suffer and sent in the money! Or if you can go to court, sure, however, the cop, may give out the real speed? Toss the dice! I would say thanks, and pay the fine!

I agree with the others... Pay it so it doesn't haunt you. Where were you at by the way, when you got this ticket?
Debey and Jammie might hate me for this, but maybe you should invest in a radar detector
I have a lead foot at times.. And mine has helped... a few times
When I think of this, I say get out of the left lane if you're slow!

I've been pulled over in Wyoming plenty of times and one time I lost the ticket when I got back home. I called up the HP in Cheyenne and they said it was a goodthing I was prompt about calling them up otherwise a warrant would have been issued had I not paid. Now, I doubt that warrant would go into SD's system but if I was ever pulled over in WY again I would be arrested.
My advice- the cop dropped it down for you so pay it. You WERE speeding and even though it was out in no-man's land it's still ILLEGAL. You may not plan on coming back to SD again but it could gum up the works in the future if you don't pay it. Who knows, call them and tell them you "lost" the ticket and they may just let it go. That happened to me with a parking ticket one time.

My friend got pulled over about 10 miles south of Nebraska City along US 75 when he, another friend, and I were heading to Southern Kansas. He was in a construction zone and had a lead foot at the time. When I looked at the spedometer (when he was driving) from the passenger seat, I was thinking at that time he was playing with fire when he was driving 75-80 mph in a 55 mph zone. Sure enough, the cop was pulled him over for going 75 in a 55 zone and issued him a $200+ ticket. He was ticked and obviously so. Oddly enough, we seen about a dozen or so cop cars between Nebraska City and Topeka, KS. The ticket did not count against insurance and record but was a good lesson for him.
As mentioned before, I have a lead foot at times and sometimes have the "have to be there yesterday" attitude, which I have more of this attitude with in town driving and two lane roads as opposed to intereste driving. What helps me is to put the car on cruise control (removes my temptation to go beyond the five over the speed limit).
Pay the ticket and learn from mistakes.

I don't drive like an old lady either. I got a warning for speeding a few years ago. BUT that's in town. I don't like to drive so I rarely drive on the interstate anymore. DH does the driving.
BUT I well remember being young and loving to drive and speed limits didn't deter me either. But there really are places where speeding is dangerous and construction sites are one of those places. Aren't the fines double there? There was a gal from Mitchell who was working on a construction site at Kennebec and she and her fiance were killed a few years ago. I believe she held the signs and her fiance was a worker there and someone was speeding and lost control. That cured me from speeding in construction zones.
