Default Elementary sports/activies - Rapid City

Do the elementary schools offer any sports or activities? Or are they all through other programs?

I know this summer I will want to get my girls into swimming lessons somewhere. My 9 yr old has only had 1 session of lessons and my 7 yr old hasn't had any, so I would like to get them going on that hopefully.

My 9 yr old - who is currently in 3rd grade loves sports. Unfortunately I can never afford to get her in much around here, but hoping that will change once we get settled down there. She loves anything from basketball to gymnastics, hockey, running/track etc. Pretty much anything she gets the opportunity to do she loves.. I think she will be my expensive one hehe.

Any info to get me started looking in the right places once we get down there would be great!

gosh, Jen there is a TON around here.
There is soccer in the spring and fall. And in the winter indoor.

There are 3 outdoor swimming pools and 1 indoor plus the ymca. You can take swimming lessons year round at the indoor and at the Y. I always have my kids do lessons in the Jan/Feb session at the indoor (swim center) because it gives them something to do in the most boring months of the year, something to do in warmth, and it's not as busy.

We have softball leagues in the summer, football in the fall for kids as young as 5 or 6 (flag for the youngest).

The parks and rec's has classes all summer long. Everything ranging from art class, to track camp, all outdoor activities at the many parks around town. The classes can be 2 weeks long Mon-Thur or just 3 days and done. There are many options. I enrolled my son in a flag football camp to see if he'd be interested, then I would have signed him up for flag football that began in Sept. But he ended up not liking it.

There's ballet studios all over town, Just Jymnastics that has a great indoor gymnastics teaching center. You can do just summer or year round.

There are many karate/jujitsu, etc businesses around town. There's a great jujitsu class at the swim center that's only $35 a month for 3 one hour classes a week. Several of my daughters friends are in it.

I know I'll think of more, but I'll end this post for now while I come up with them

Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear that there are a lot of options. We wont be able to afford a lot especially if I dont find a job right away but sounds like at least some of it isnt extremely expensive. I will have a lot to look into once we get down there. The girls will be thrilled!

swimming lessons at the swim center/outdoor pools is $30 to $35 a session.
gymnastics is $45 or so a month (it's been 2 year since we participated in that and I'm sure it's gone up, they built a new gym)
ballet ranges from $35 to $50 a month depending on where you go
soccer is around $65 a session (spring, fall, etc)

the rec activities vary in price depending on what it is and how many days. I think the track/football camps were around $30 a piece. I don't remember and it was only last summer! We did an art class 2 summers ago for $12 each kid.

you can get punch cards for the pools, you can get quarterly memberships, or annual memberships. We opted for the punch cards because we don't go a ton, and didn't want the membership to expire on a date. We bought a family of 4 punch cards 20 visits each, for around $150. We haven't used them all up in over a year. They let me use my hubby's punch card for grandma when she visits, or when my daughter wants to bring a friend. The punch cards I bought are good at any of the outdoor or the indoor pool.

We also have an indoor ice rink. I've never been there, but it's next door to the swim center.
