Well, waiting is the worst part. I'll have to wait up to two weeks to know if I'm going be called up to Sioux Falls for a face-to-face.

Thanks for asking! It got off to a little rough start, but everything smoothed out. All in all, good.

If you end up in Belle Fourche, make sure you check the flood plain area. Also, one of my best friends is a chiropractor there. After all this tension, you may need an adjustment or at the very least, a professional massage.

I am sure by the time we get there, I will definitely be ready for a massage! A 1300 mile move is nothing to sneeze at!

As I've said before, waiting IS the worst part. I still have to wait another 7-14 days for an official response. (It's a long story, but I still feel like I well in the interview and the interviewer stated such.)
When I get a thumbs up or down, I'll let you know. I have to say that the more I look into Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County, the more I like it. Downtown S.F. looks like it's growing and very well kept (including historic structures being preserved.) Tea, Brandon and Dell Rapids all look like very nice suburban communities. I'm also surprised that Sioux Falls has a mall as large as Empire (I'm a guy and therefore not a shopaholic, but still it's interesting!) It's bigger than anything in KY and almost as big as anything in much larger locales like Cincinnati or Nashville. I don't want to get too carried away b/c, well, knowing my fate I'll "jinx" it.
I must say, if you had met me six weeks ago and asked me to think about South Dakota, I would have laughed at you and said "What? South Dakota? Give me a break." I used to be all gunk-ho about going to Texas, but God has used a teaching experience to show me that I need to keep my options open and just listen to Him. Everybody I talk to here in Kentucky that has been to South Dakota, likes South Dakota, and just judging by pictures of the state my mind has really been opened now! Even if I don't get called back for a second interview, no less a job offer, I still really want to check out your state.

I can't agree more .When peolpe ask me where do you live ?I said "south dakota" They all very surprised and said"what?south dakota"?.
I was just very annoyed by those people with such narrow minded. If they had come here, they would like it here I am sure.I have been to virginia before and I feel the two cities are almost the same, with the exception that vrginia is a lot bigger and more diversitied. That's it.
People should always keep their options open Good luck with you guys' interviews

If not South Dakota, I'd be willing to consider California, Washington (DC), Washington State, Oklahoma, Atlanta, etc. for a variety of reasons, and not just b/c KY's unemployment rate is high (although that's a good excuse.) I'm young, single and not really obligated to stay in KY for anything, so I'd be moving b/c I can and really want to. Open-mindedness is the key.
A lot of people might be surprised to know that South Dakota has one of the nation's lowest unemployment rates. But, when you consider ventures such as substantive agriculture (people will always want corn on the cob, soy milk, beef, and whatever else individual personalities desire) and a diversified economy not always based on agriculture, it makes perfect sense.
New York, for example, has a huge financial services sector, as well as many consultants, law firms, planning organizations, and corporate headquarters that share close relationships with the financial industry; when Wall Street began to falter, well, let's just say that Metropolitan New York is expecting to add 250,000 people to their list of unemployed in 2009. It's similar in California, and their sky-high cost of doing business is driving companies out of state. North Carolina has a large financial sector too in Charlotte; coupled with a massive outsourcing of blue-collar jobs, NC isn't faring too well, either. Kentucky's unemployment rate is now past 10% and in the ranks with the three aforementioned states--mostly due to manufacturing sector outsourcing and lay-offs.
My point: I doubt you'll hear of problems like those occurring in SD, which is one reason I have an open mind for SD. That, and the seemingly friendly people on C-D and in person . Again, my only concern, if I were to move there, is the frigid winters.
