Also keep in mind that the only animal you'll see in Rapid City is probably a deer. I saw a rattlesnake on Bear Butte when I was about 3 and I hit a deer with my car downtown about 2 years ago. Lived her 19 years and that's as much wildlife as I've come in contact with. You'll be fine.

Voyager, I didn't realize you had bears down there. I don't think we have any up here~not out in the wild anyway. We have "Bear Country" in the Hills, but that's a contained area. I've never heard of any that are running loose though.

Thank you all so much, I can't wait! My hubby says I worry too much lol.. but this is something that will be completely new to me so want to know what to expect before I head out into the "unknown."
Now if they would only stop delaying our move so I can get down there!

I agree with what everyone has said - lots of deer - lots of wild turkey - some mt. lion sightings - the moose - rattlesnakes, were more previlant last year due to the moisture so I expect that to continue this year - regular old bugs and my favorite -eeek the wolf spider! gross!

I'll see a wolf spider every couple of years. They're usually in the garage. They're pretty harmless when they come face-to-face with my shoe!

Busy, the same thing happened when I moved into my new home. There was no grass in the yard yet so all the bugs came inside. I had to buy ant traps and Raid to keep them at bay. I'd often wake up with small bites too.

It only happened because my house was new. Paint was still wet on moving day.
