New Numbers are out.
South Dakota looks to now be the fastest growing state in the entire Plains and Midwest based on percentage gain between 2000 and 2008.

Good and Bad for me! I live in Lead/Deadwood. Approved neutrino lab is looking to start to take off. I love the peace and quiet in Lead, but heck I sell real estate so I should be happy! Out little town is gearing up for another boom!

That's wonderful news!!! I'm surprised that many people would be interested in living here with such cold winters, but since our unemployment rates and crime rates are reasonable, more people may be looking at our state. As long as it's gradual and planned growth, it's good news for all of us.

Bad for me but not too bad since we live in one of the counties with the least amount of growth (harding county) and one of the reasons I moved up here was to get away from people LOL.

Thanks for the update, Granite!
I like going for drives, and it amazes me when I drive on the outskirts of Sioux Falls. The amount of construction is astounding.

Even with the slowdown, Sioux Falls is still growing and holding its own. People are more cautious about buying homes and are more price sensitve than three or four years ago, but maybe that is good in the sense that they are using more common sense.
I think that Sioux Falls has a bright future, even with the challenges and questions that may be raised if Smithfield conisders combining the Sioux City and Sioux Falls John Morrell opeations. There was an article in the Sunday's Argus about this issue and I am somewhat concerned but think that it may pose new opportunties and motivation for Sioux Falls to further diversify its economic base.

Wow, I didn't realize that Sx. Falls itself was over 150,000 people already. I thought that was with the closer, surrouding towns. Check out Tea~what an increase!!!
There were a few that surprised me~wonder why Deadwood and Lead have lost population. It's beautiful there.

I'd guess, Lead because of Homestake closures and the fact in Deadwood if you don't want to work in a casino there is not much else, so they might all move to Rapid City.....I'd like to move to Deadwood again but like I said not many non-casino jobs.
