Do any of the lakes/reservoirs have beaches?
My 8 year old wants to know if any of the lakes and reservoirs that allow swimming have actual sand? I told her I didn't know, but I would ask! Can anyone help me?

Yes, all of the lakes have at least a couple beaches. Angostora's Breakers Beach has sand, volleyball courts, a dock, and a large food stand. It's probably the largest beach at Angostora. There are lots of other ones too and then there are small private ones that you can boat up to.

Iron creek lake is a small private recreation area - that will probably be the closest mountain lake with a beach to Belle Fourche. The lake and the Beach are small, but it is a much more pristine area than Orman which is in the flat country just a few miles out of Belle. Orman Dam is a little murkey too. Further into the hills there are more than a half a dozen others, but they will be a little more of a drive - but still very commutable for day trips. Nearly all the lakes will have nice little beach/picnic areas and great places to camp nearby as well.

Awesome info, everyone! Thanks so much! She is very excited! We regularly vacation at Lake Michigan now, and she loves to play on the beach. I know there will be lots of other things to keep her busy, but it's nice to know she will be able to play in the sand once in a while!

No, lakes do not have beaches or currents. Lakes only have lake-shore, or lake fronts.
Beach- a: a shore of a body of water covered by sand, gravel, or larger rock fragments b : a seashore area
Sea-1 a : a great body of salt water that covers much of the earth; broadly : the waters of the earth as distinguished from the land and air b : a body of salt water of second rank more or less landlocked <the Mediterranean sea> c : ocean d : an inland body of water —used especially for names of such bodies <the Caspian Sea>
2 a : surface motion on a large body of water or its direction; also : a large swell or wave —often used in plural <heavy sea s> b : the disturbance of the ocean or other body of water due to the wind
Shore-1 : the land bordering a usually large body of water; specifically : coast
2 : a boundary (as of a country) or an area within a boundary —usually used in plural <immigrated to these shore s>
Lake Front- an area fronting on a lake
Lake Shore- : the shore of a lake
If a lake does have a beach...(Lake Michigan) for an example it is NOT a lake. Lake Michigan is not a lake. It has currents, tides bigger than a normal lake, and it has a beach!
Whoever, named that big body of water a lake was wrong. Lake Michigan is NOT a LAKE. It is a sea!

Maybe you should have asked, 'Do any of the lakes have an area around them made of sand in which children could play on, if so inclined?'
