The flood water is backed up, clear into town, across from the old elevator.....we've gotten pretty used to seeing it that way. Took my grandson on "River Road", along the James, up to John Brown's Mound.....2miles or so, North of Forestburg, on Saturday. The Country road, that crosses the River, there is closed, "offically", but 4 wheel drive trucks have driving thru the water, now. 2 weeks ago, it wasn't possible.....

Danny, right in Mitchell, we don't get flooded from the James because we're quite elevated from it. BUT several fields and farms do flood that are down in the valley. Some people even leave their car on the road and use a canoe or boat to get home and back to their car again. It's been above flood stage for several weeks already. I believe it's something like 17 feet until it hits flood stage and it's been over 21 for a while now.

The flooding on the James is bad in Brown County too... Near Columbia, northeast of Aberdeen... I haven't seen it personally, but I've heard about it. FEMA was up there inspecting the infrastructure a few days ago.

At one time, there was only 1 "available" road into Columbia.

Okay because it looked a little higher than I remembered when I've crossed before. The Missouri looked the same at Chamberlain but then again, it's a very controlled river with an intricate dam system too.

This would have been a great spring, to tour the James River Valley, from the air! The river is slowly receeding. very slow, buit it seems to be going down.

Too bad Chef Louie's wasn't closed down permanently. I had the worst customer service in my life in that restaurant in Oct 2006. I was seated and then inexplicably ignored for 30 minutes. The place wasn't busy at all. Finally got up and left. The experience unfortunately colored my view of Mitchell. Seemed like a very nice town otherwise.
