Pick up 83 and keep on a trucking. Not a bad plan. Its a direct route. Services become a bit more rare as you get north of I-80. Where a NAV system comes in handy is finding dining and fuel stops.

I can see your concern then. In Nebraska its a good haul (60 miles or so) between towns on US 83 and you may have spotty cell service north of North Platte. Just make sure you plan your stops. McCook and North Platte have everything you need. North of North Platte, there is a nice truck stop in the small town of Thedford before you get to more services in Valentine. Once in South Dakota, there are gas stations in Mission, but I would rather get to the services in Murdo if need be. Murdo is where you will hit I-90.
I haven't been on 83 much in Kansas, but Oberlin in northern Kansas does have gas and a little food. Garden City is a bigger town, so it should have plenty of services. Scott City may have some too!
Keep your eye on signs, US 83 will make a turn in McCook and join up with US 6 and 34 through town before turning north again to North Platte on the west end of town. I believe there is another little turn in Thedford where you join NE 2 for a bit, then just south of Valentine you will join up with US 20 for a bit. Watch your signs in Valentine, as it can be easy to miss your turn. You will make a right turn off US 20 and go into downtown and then just past downtown you will take a left turn for US 83, if you go straight you will end up on a different highway. There are also a couple spots in South Dakota where you will make turns. One is in Mission where you will join up with US 18 for a little bit and then I think there is another little turn north of there but I can't remember for sure. If you just keep an eye out for signage, you should be okay!!!
I hope this helps and have a great move!!!

I beg to differ. If I was a hunter, I'd probably have a different opinion.

Same here. We don't even own a gun anymore and I'm thankful. But to each his own. I do believe in people's right to bear arms if they chose to.

I chose to bare my arms today, and all I got to show for it was a sunburn!
Sorry, I had to! I am just really tired after day one of my garage sale, and now I am going to bed!
