EMERGENCY! I am desperate for a good veterinarian in Yankton, SD
My husband and I arrived in Yankton two weeks ago, he's on the pipeline going in here. We're both brand-new to the area. Our dog is a chihuahua/daschund mix. The 'wiener dog' in her gives her back problems. Her back seems to have gone out on her again tonight and I need to get her to a vet for some steroids before she has permanent damage. Does anyone have a vet that they like and trust in the area? I really prefer to stay away from large animal vets, haven't had good luck with them with small dogs in the past. I need to take her tomorrow so I hope someone out there reads this right away! Thanks for any help you can pass along.

Jammie, THANK YOU for the listings! I really appreciate you posting them. Hopefully someone familiar with one of them will post their opinions. It may just come down to whoever can fit us in as soon as possible. I thought by getting a 'mutt' I'd be able to avoid a lot of a particular breed's issues. Regardless, though, we wouldn't trade her for anything. I'll be sure to post an update.

While I haven't heard anything bad about any vets in Yankton....I would probably go to "For Pet's Sake" for the mere fact that they specialize in small animals. I use the Veterinary Clinic in Tyndall which is only about 30 miles west of Yankton on Hwy 50 and have always been very pleased with both their care and prices.

Just wanted to update everyone. I did try the "For Pet's Sake" but nobody answers that phone on a Saturday morning. I tried the Yankton Veterinary Clinic on Broadway. They didn't have any open appointments but told me I could bring her right in and they'd fit her in before they closed at noon. As a new customer they did require cash or a credit card, which was completely understandable.
I dropped Frankie off and they called me back within 45 minutes. When I picked her up the receptionist was very helpful and informative with all the information. Then the vet came out to talk to me and was even more helpful. Everyone was very friendly and nice and great to deal with.
We got her in quick enough that she doesn't need as much in the way of agressive medications and should be OK with a couple of weeks of being totally pampered. I was so happy with the vet, staff and clinic that I made a reservation for Frankie to spend the 4th of July week-end while we go out of town. I HIGHLY recommend the Yankton Veterinary Clinic! Thanks again for your help!
