Default Pet license in Sioux Falls

Hi,

I heard somewhere that Sioux Falls requires that you license pet cats. Is this true, and if so, where do I do it?

Thanks

This is from 2007, but may still be valid:

Quote:
Do you have an animal license for your dog or cat? If your answer is no, you're in the majority.

Sioux Falls averages one dog bite report a day, and when the pet isn't licensed the situation can be complicated.

Here's a look at the new licensing requirements in the city:

Just this month the city of Sioux Falls revised its laws on animal licenses.

If your adult dog has been previously vaccinated for rabies, you can now renew "Fido's" license every two years with verification of a rabies shot.

New studies have found that as long as a dog gets its original series of rabies shots, they only need them every two years.

That license will cost you ten dollars for a neutered or spayed dog. It's $50 for one that isn't fixed.

9,500 animals are licensed in Sioux Falls and 85% of those are dogs. Most people don't license their cats. But cats have a higher frequency of rabies and they're supposed to be licensed once a year.

It's $5 a year for a spayed or neutered cat and $25 for one that isn't.

If you don't license your pet and it bites someone, or it gets picked up as a stray, or your neighbor complains of a barking dog, you can get a $75 ticket.

If you have any questions take this link to the new licensing requirements.

Thanks. I sort of thought that perhaps not many people would actually license their cats. Will have to decide whether it's worth the $5/yr or not. Planning to keep the cat indoors anyway.

You got me thinking about whether we should have our cats licensed where I live. I looked it up and it is $3 per year. Until today, I didn't even know there was such a license. I guess $6 per year isn't a big deal. Our cats are indoor only, so probably don't need one really.

Congratulations to both of you cat owners for being responsible. I don't understand people who think it's perfectly OK for their cats to run all hours of the day. I've had more damage done to my property by cats on the loose than dogs. By damage, I mean cats marking their territories, primarily in my garage. I also don't enjoy the early morning mess of having your garbage bags torn apart by cats before the garbage man has a chance to pick them up. I've had stray dogs do this also, but usually it's cats.

Everyone, dog and cat owners alike have a responsibility to keep their animals from disruptive behavior. It's just common courtesy and being a good neighbor.

JMGG, I couldn't agree with you more. Furthermore, it's unsafe for your pet to just let them roam the streets.

a friend claims he adds a few drops of bleach, on a paper towel, & puts in the garbage bags & the cats & dogs don't bother. I've never tried it, as we have a dumpster........
