This is a good honor for Sioux Falls. Although, I sometimes wonder if the drivers in Sioux Falls are the safest. Some are downright slow, inattentive, and clueless and others are OK and mind their business. I like to drive where there is a good flow of traffic and am one who follows the speed limit or do the five over, but not someone who goes 50 in a 30 zone. The biggest problem in Sioux Falls is traffic flow but I have been lucky not to have ever been in an accident in Sioux Falls.
Ya, I know what ya mean Chris. I can't stand it when drivers driver UNDER the speed limit. I went off to Boise for school and when I came back to Rapid for the summer I noticed Rapid's drivers are pretty bad when it comes to using blinkers/driving super slow/and just flat out not paying attention. However, Rapid drivers are always willing to let you into a lane, which is something that doesn't exist in Boise.
I also didn't realize how convenient the southeast connector is in Rapid City. I never really used it until Target moved its store. It is starting to become a major road with all the construction and development out there. It is amazing how fast the town is growing.
Any other thoughts about drivers/traffic/roads/construction in your home town? Haha sorry this reply brought up a lot of topics!
Andy I love the Southeast Connector too. If you ever have to go from the Westside to I-90 it cuts the time in half. I also take it when I come home from a long trip out east. Then I don't have to go through Rapid City traffic to get to my house.
The Southeast Connector was nice when heading to Las Vegas last year and as an easy way to get off I-90 and use the 4-laned SD 79 to Hot Springs before heading towards Casper and eventually to I-80.
This doesn't really relate to SF, but one of the first things I noticed out here in the Hills is that people really take that 40 mph lower limit on the interstate seriously! OMG! I can't believe how many people out there are just putting along at 40-45 mph! In Indiana, that would get you dead in pretty short order! (80-85 is the going speed on most of I-65, even though the posted limit is 75!)
years ago I could roll onto the Interstate at Spearfish (exit 14) and before the days of the SE Connector make it home to South of Rapid City in right at an hour. That was going through construction and obeying the posted limit in the construction zone and running Campbell Street in Rapid.
Sioux Falls drivers, well I have decided if I can avoid 41st ST, it is not so bad. Wintertime accidents and cars slide in at an alarming rate.
Congratulations to all the drivers bringing up the safe driving average that my 23 year old daughter keeps trying to destroy. Two at fault accidents in the last 2 years and a totalled Dodge Avenger courtesy of a buck deer last year (not her fault. It actually ran into her).
AHHH, Sx. Falls is a hit on so many lists that you just have to wonder what it's like in other cities. I don't mean that offensively cause we like Sx. Falls, but they have 50 times the traffic we have here and it's scary.
Seriously, I think it's wonderful that one of our cities does so well nationally. Now once we get RC over that 100,000 mark, they'll qualify for the lists, too.
This is the 4th consecutive year for SF to make Allstate's safest driving city.
