I would also recommend Midcontinent, although I know nothing about Knology. I have had internet through Midcontinent (cable), Mediacom (cable), and BridgeMaxx (wireless). Midcontinent beats Mediacom in price, speed, customer service, and reliability. BridgeMaxx doesn't compete with cable when it comes to speed and reliability.
My vote is for Knology.
I've tried both, and I went back to knology after not being fully happy with midco. I didn't hate midco, I didn't have anything bad happen, I just prefer knology.
We had Knology for about 5 years (starting when it was still Prairiewave) and switched to Midco about 6 months ago. I feel that both their Phone and internet service is on par with each other; but what did win me over to Midco was their (slightly) larger selection of HD channels. When Midco came to town, they offered a bigger package at $30 less the price of Knology. We called KNology and asked if they would be adding more HighDef channels to their lineup and there reply was that it was expensive not a very popular service. It is popular in our house. Both Midco and Knology had great customer service whenever I had to use them. The only thing that really won me over to Midco was more High Definition channels at a lower price. Hope that helps...
We have decided to give Midco a try. Knology wasn't willing to match the package, and it will save me over $250 for the year. If I don't like it, I guess we will switch back!
I would be happy with either at this point I think. When Fibercom went through the area we were 1/2 mile to far from one end and 1 mile too far from the other to get hooked up. Quest is no help either they keep sending notices that DSL is available sign up now. But when we call we are told sorry the part of the system you are on doesn't qualify and we see no updates in your future. Gotta love the country living.
FiberCom was great and made high speed possible in the Black Hills and created competition . It seemed fine when PrairieWave bought them, but now that it is Knology the customer service has gone down hill IMO - I still have them as I am not quick to change.
I had good customer service at Knology, but wish that they can offer more (on the par with Midcontinent). With it being the only cable provider and not having any desire of getting a dish for the TV, I will live with Knology.
The town in live in has Knoloogy, but a couple nearby towns have multiple cable companies. One has Knology and Midcontinent and the other has Midcontinent, Qwest, and Knology.
