Smile Spearfish and Blackhills University

Hi all!

My husband and I are considering moving to Spearfish next year. My husband is wanting to attend Blackhills University to study Travel and Tourism. Now my question, I have heard that the job market is no too good right now (it is in MS too). My husband will be going to school full time and working part time. I will need a full time job. My current job is as an Administrative Assistant at an architect firm. I would like to find a job like what I am doing if possible but would do any type of administrative job if necessary. From what I can tell it looks like my best chances for work would be Rapid City. Are there any places in between RC and Spearfish to live so that the drive would not be too bad for either one of us? I would prefer not having to drive over 30 minutes if possible. Any suggestions?

You may want to check out Sturgis then, its about right in the middle of both of them and is located on I-90 which is the interstate that runs through both.......Black Hawk is about 5 miles west of Rapid City on I-90 but may be too far for him to travel....I don't know if the University Center in Sioux Falls offers the degree that he's thinking about but that may be an option as well, you'd have a lot better job opportunities there and not as long of a commute for either of you.....

Here's the website for the center
University Center > Sioux Falls College and Higher Education

Default Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have him look at Sioux Falls. I know that the campus in Rapid City doesn't have his degree. He is still not sure where he is going to school. He is also looking at Johnson college in Vermont, Johnson & Wales in Providence, RI and Central Missouri. I really like everything that I have seen about South Dakota. It seem like a nice area and would be a huge change from hot and humid coast.

Yeah, I'd say look at Sturgis. Hopefully you would be able to find a job in Spearfish though. It is a growing town and a popular retirement destination with lots of newer homes so maybe you could find something in architecture without much of a problem.

Sure, Rapid City is going to have more jobs but the Rapid City-Sturgis-Spearfish commute can get old and even dangerous in the winter. A friend of mine did commute between RC and Spearfish for school though.
