Hay---Newell, Buffalo, Bison Area HELP
Hiya all,
I need to put up between 20 and 30 bales of hay this year for my horses. They guy we got the hay from the last 2 years was doing 800 lb bales for us (this was before we got the tractor) and now wants to do 1000 lb bales. We just got our tractor a couple months ago and its supposed to lift 1500 lb on the bucket side. No Dice, It won't lift his new 1000 lb bales. And he refuses to do 800 lb bales for me even though it would only require him to drop the bales a tad bit earlier than with doing the 1000 lbers.
Does anyone know of anyone in or around the Newell, Buffalo, or Bison or NW Harding County area that can do 30 800lb bales for me. I have been paying 80 bucks a ton (which would work out to around 1000 bucks for the 30 bales roughly) and would like to keep paying that much if at all possible (or less would be even better lol). I may be able to come and get them or I may not, may have to have them delivered (would pay for that as well if need be within reason). My Dump Truck could really only handle 3 bales and that would be 10 trips to pick them up and she's a 1969 and doubt she candle that many trips especially since she only does about 35 miles per hour ROFL.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, we've only lived here 3 yrs and I still don't know everybody up here.

Can't think of a name. However in the fall (september) there might be hay auction in Belle. I know family has purchased hay there. Also check the TriState Livestock News TSLN.com | Tri-State Livestock News

Thanks RJ I'll look into that. Not sure if they will be doing a drought relief type newsletter thing this year also for people that have Hay to sell but I will keep my eyes open for that too. Also going to put up a Flyer at the local Gas Stations, Bank, Post office and Grocery store as well.

I find it funny that the loader is not handling a half ton bale.
The hay auction I am thinking of is the Bachand Hay auction near Sturgis. It is later than I thought (December 8th) if I had a trailer I wouldn't mind hauling. The listing there also has cell phone # don't know if he would do private treaty.

Why can't your tractor lift the 1000 lb bales?
I know very little about farming, but I did grow up on one haha.
And this probably won't help any...
My dad, on his older tractors, had a rear attachment to hold bales... I think this would help in picking up bales with the loader (so your tractor doesn't tip over.. the whole physics thing).
Like I said, I probably have no idea what I'm talking about!

Well the big problem is, I'm not using one of them big 100 thousand dollar tractors, I'm using a 20 hp nortrac Tractor because at the time when I ordered the tractor I wasn't aware that George was going to be switching to 1000 lb bales.
My rear 3 point is only capable of lifting 825 lbs. If I had known George was gonna switch to making 1000 lb bales I would have sprung a bit more and got the 30 hp tractor. Anyway I'm still a bit frustrated with George as all it takes to make a 800 lb bale is dropping the bale a bit earlier than dropping it for a 1000 lb bale.
