Default Coal Springs

Interested in anyone with knowledge of Coal Springs, SD. My mother grew up there in the early 1900's. The family homesteaded there. The town no longer exists and only remnants mark the spot. My great grandfather raised horses and sold them to the government he also dug coal. This was close to Lemon, Faith and Isabel.

Do you know what county it was in? There is a Cold Springs area near Hot Springs, SD. If that was it, you could probably get some info thru the Hot Springs historical society.

Thank you for your interest uncleharley. The town was Coal Springs and has been gone from the map for a number of years. It got its name from a coal mine close by is what I was told. I have pictures of Coal Springs when it was a town, and probably some names. It had a school etc. Still hope that some day someone will have some knowledge or find that they too had people that migrated there and lived there.

omahamisty.
You have a private EMail about Coal Springs, SD. If I would have seen this post earlier, I would have answered you on this forum instead of EMail. Have a good day.

Omahamisty,
After doing some more checking, I find that Coal Springs, SD is shown on a map of SD in 1920. The earlier versions of maps I have do not show it.

My grandparents homesteaded at Coal Springs in Perkins County SD about 1907. Later they had a store in Coal Springs. fjburton@olypen.com
