I was thinking that to. I'm 54 and soon to be 55. I did not go through the draft. The last year of birth that actually were drafted were those born in 1952. If I had volunteered for service I would have had to volunteer to go to Nam since we were in the process of pulling out and new recruits were not being sent there unless they wanted to. One tour would have been all the possible time that I could have gotten in there.
The first thing to straighten out the indian reservations is to get rid of the silly "we're a soverign nation" thing. THEN triple the law enforcement (and NOT just BIA police, but federal officers) to get rid of the growing gang/thug problem giving the indian people who want to better their situation safety. You'll be able to bring in more services and housing that will stay good and not get destroyed with better law enforcement.
It is a horrible situation on the SD reservations. Nothing will ever improve until these first steps above are done. Granted, it's just the start, but it would be progress which is more than we have now.
