Hi Sober, you'll find most of the towns pretty laid back here. So. Dak. used to have a few River Parks, but I believe they may all be closed now. I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong, but I believe there could be a couple of "Keystone" chemical dependency centers that are still open. And Beingthere has a good link to follow.
You may want to check to see what they have in the Rapid City area. It's laid back and beautiful out there. ![]() |

Not sure exactly what you are looking for but to work in the mental health field in SD you need to be licesnsed... I am an LCSW - CSW-PIP (Licenses Clinical Social Worker Certified Social Worker, Professional In Practice) long way of saying I'm licensed to do private therapy work if I so choose and am licensed at the highest masters degress social work level.
This is kind of long because I have lots of info ![]() Basicly, no person may represent himself or herself as a licensed or certified chemical dependency counselor (CCDC) or certified prevention specialist unless the person is certified by the South Dakota Certification Board for Alcohol and Drug Professionals. Source: SL 1990, ch 313, § 11; SL 2004, ch 253, § 2. To work directly for the state, successful applicants must possess or apply for recognition as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Trainee through the South Dakota Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification Board (SDCDCCB) within 10 days from the date of hire and shall be recognized as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Trainee before performing the duties of a Chemical Dependency Counselor. Trainees must meet all requirements for certification per SDCDCCB by the end of their recognition period. You should be able to find work in the chemical dependancy field in many areas - Yankton as mentioned above, and I Know Rapid City has several adult and teen programs. Keystone is still open - but has closed here in Rapid and has been bought out by new orginizations... Most towns such as brookings, Sioux falls, rapid city etc have local mental health centers that focus on substances as well. The info I have on file lists the following services - inpatient and outpatient in SD Agency Village Dakotah Pride Treatment Ctr. (Adults) 388 Dakota Avenue Sisseton, SD 57262 605-698-3917 605-742-3114 Black Hawk Black Hills Recovery Center (Adults) 7205 Timberline Rd Black Hawk, SD 57718 605-787-9200 Canton Keystone Treatment Center (Title 19, Adult/Adolescents) 1010 East 2nd Street PO Box 159 Canton, SD 57013 605-987-2751 800-992-1921 Huron Our Home, Inc. We relocated to Sioux Falls SD from Birmingham AL in 1999 when I was transferred with my job. We moved to Seattle in 2002 when my wife was transferred with her job. Good compromise between big city amenities and small town living. Though at the junction of I-90 and I-29 it is very isolated and the only major size city between Minneapolis and Omaha corridor. Friendly people, great schools and a great place to raise kids but very cold winters. But cheap cost of living equals cheaper paychecks. For example, I was looking to relocate back there in 2007 from Dallas TX for a banking job but the bank was offering me LESS money then what I had made in 2002 so some things do not change!
