Default Blind Children

what to do and where to go if your child is blind?

moving to spearfish. have six year old blind boy. also are there a lot of blind people in south dakota, like how often do you see them. what is available to those that are blind, like schools, or teachers, or summer camps and sports, that stuff. looking into rapid city area. thanks.

By federal law school districts are required services to disabled children. (FAPE). Also, Spearfish is home of Black Hills State which started out as a teacher's college. There should be plenty of student teachers floating around in the classrooms which should be a real plus.

One thing to note: Small towns offer what they can but their special ed services will never equal what larger cities can offer. And I am writing from personal experience as I am the mother of two special needs children. Life has been interesting.

South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired

I don't know if they will have any resources for you, but this was all that came immediately to mind. There is also a children's hospital in Rapid that may offer some services:
