I loved sledding. The best was old tractor tire inner tube and steep hill out in a pasture. The other thing was riding on an old car hood pulled behind a horse or pickup. Redneck, oh yes! but fun, fun, fun.

I see others have pretty well covered the summer stuff - here are some more winter ideas.
My kids loved to go sledding and building snow forts and having snowball fights etc -- fun no/low cost things. Also the local arts centers/playhouses stay fairly active in the winter. Winter fest in Lead is also a great time with fireworks, Christmas tree bonfire, old movies at the historic opera house, 50 yd doggy dash races with kids on sleds, snowshoeing groups, there are also competitions/spectator events at the slopes as well. As long as one is tolerant of the cold and willing to bundle up there is plenty to do to keep occupied! I snowshoe some as it is fairly inexpensive and it is great winter excercise - the forestry/michelson trail office checks their snowshoes out for free!
Parade of lights in Rapid is a cool holiday tradition for a lot of people too....

Wcpc worded this thread in a way that made me think they wanted to know what activities they could do when they GOT HERE in November. That's why my focus has been that way. Sure, there is a TON to do in the summer.

yeah, my kids barely ever watch tv, we dont have cable, see it as being pointless. so its one tv for watching the limited channels that we have. we hate having the stupid digital tv thing, the manatory one that started this year, whatever its called, if you move a certain way it screws up the tv, you can tell by moving back and forth, andit would work, not work, work, even if all you do is move your head or something. there was no problems before, now it is always messed up. we also have one tv for movies and the wii that is in the basement. kids get sooo bored in the house, which is kinda the point, dont want the kids to have sooo much fun in the house that they never want to leave.
