Default Pumpkin Farms/Fall Festivals/Haunted Houses

Hey Everyone! We are looking to fill our fall calendar with some fall festivals and pumpkin farms or haunted houses! Any suggestions (especially West River)? What is not to be missed around here in October?

I can't help you with anything west river, but something totally different that your kids would love is the Halloween haunted corn maze just south of Sioux Falls by Harrisburg. It's located on Hwy. 11 about 8 miles from Sioux Falls.

Every year 2 farm families create a totally different design for a corn maze located on approx. 8 acres of land. It just opened on Labor Day and runs through Halloween. I believe this years design is a butterfly.

During halloween and several days before, they create a haunted cornfield with surprises all over as well as prizes that can be won for finding clues. They actually shut down the maze several days prior to reopening for this, just to set it up for the halloween fun.

Rapid City's idea of a pumpkin patch is a bunch of pumpkins thrown on a parking lot. I've always wondered why! Maybe cause we have freezing temps at night before Halloween. No idea. The best one I've ever been to is Vala's pumpkin patch in Nebraska.
You definately won't find anything like a butterfly shaped maze West river! That sounds cool!

Yeah, the maze would be cool! We usually do one or two a year, but SF is a little far for us to drive!

I thought I had heard that there was a pumpkin farm in the hills now? Hill City area, possibly? Danny, maybe you can fill me in...we stumbled on one in western Wyoming on Hwy 85 South when we went on an accidental detour one time.

Out near Black Hawk there is a real pumpkin patch - they have had it the last two years and I think it has been a huge hit - my kids love it - Like Ashnat - coming from Denver we missed the "real" pumpkin patches and corn mazes.

We usually also go to the pumpkin area at the Church on the West side (name escapes me now) and play around.

Custer State park has their buffalo round up and fall festival.

We just put up our fall decorations this weekend and now it's 85 degrees - you just cant win!

Edited to add - Saw this in the breakroom here at work this am - www.fortfear.com -
