Cool Live music

Good day,
I'm probably moving to SD (Sioux Falls) in about a year. I know I like SD but would like to know more about music/arts going on in the area. I play drums and have played clubs and casinos in SD (and 37 other states).
I'm also into the outdoors. I think SD has that covered! Thanks much.

Hi Drummer, what sort of music are you looking for? There are clubs in Sx. Falls that often have bands. There are also places like the casino in Flandreau that have entertainment on occasion. We do have the South Dakota symphony and I believe they're based out of Sioux Falls. Jerry Lee Lewis was there a few months ago. We're going to Deadwood's Kool Summer Nights in August and we'll see Bobby Vee and also the Grass Roots. The Corn Palace Festival in Mitchell (Where I live) has entertainment during the festival and occasionally at other times. The South Dakota State Fair in Huron also has music during fair week. The Sioux Empire Fair in Sioux Falls also has some good bands. The Beach Boys were over there a few years ago and will also be playing in Pierre this autumn. There are also some good local bands around. If you give us more of an idea what you're looking for, we could probably give you a bit more info. Are you hoping to join a band here? Welcome to South Dakota!!!

Default Thanks!

Thanks for you reply, Jammie,
I would be looking to form/join a band to play clubs and casinos in the area/region. I've played all styles, (I'm a spry 45yo drummer). The Country/Classic rock combo has been good to me, however I have a music education and am quite flexible, IMHO. As you can see from my username I'm torn between "smokey old pool rooms and clear mt. mornings".

Local word of mouth is usually the most reliable, as well as music stores and employees of live music venues.

Again, thanks much. I'll take all the info I can get.

Alright!! You're not much younger then I am and I love that old rock n roll music. You're right. If you get to the clubs and get around a bit, you'll find someone who can direct you to the right people. There are several live bands in the Sioux Falls-Mitchell area.

Thought I'd let you all know that if you're in Western SoDak this weekend you may want to check out the Hemp Hoe Down. It's an outdoor concert series that last 3 days at Elk View Canprounds between Rapid City and Sturgis. I believe it's Exit 35.

Here's some info:
Black Hills Hemp Hoe Down

It's a little trippy, but I think it's held by Spearfish college kids...
