Whitewood, SD
We were considering buying some land in Whitewood but saw that crime was high for a town so small according to Sperlings. I didnt know if it was a consistant thing there or was just a fluke thing, because obviously it wouldnt take much in a town so small for it to be that high on the scale. I would just love some local opinions on the town and area. Thanks in advance.

I would chalk it up to a fluke. My cousin has a shop there, is well established. Another cousin just retired and moved out there.

I'd also chalk it up as a fluke. Here's the CD website for Whitewood~

I don't think that Whitewood would be much of a crime-ridden town, especially because Sturgis is so close, but I have heard that there are plenty of meth labs around that area.

Its not like you will find a lab in every basement or tweaker on every street corner. Throughout the whole hills its possible to setup a lab and detection may or may not be easy.

I don't know the exact formulas they use when crime charts are created, but they're actually skewed to some extent in very small towns.
Here's an example~
http://www.city-data.com/city/Stickn...th-Dakota.html
This little town doesn't even have a crime chart on CD. There may be one on other sites, but it would register nearly nothing for crime. This morning our local paper has a story in it about a meth lab being found there. Now that's going to increase the crime rate of that city by possibly 90%. In very low populated areas, just one or two crimes will give theim a high number because their proportion of population is so small.

Whitewoods OK
I've lived just outside of Whitewood for 17 years now and don't think there is any more problem with crime here than anywhere else, possibly even less because people tend to discipline there own around here more then a bigger city.
