Leroy, if you get the chance, read some online newspapers. It's brutal out in the real world.

The Phone
I echo John and Jammie. There is no way, absolutely no way this would have happened for us in certain areas (trying to be neutral here as well). However Leroy, before moving from our home state we honestly would not have believed half the stuff that a person can run into elsewhere (we just assumed the good as we saw in SD).
That is exactly why we are planning (just the planning stages) our next SD trip already to not only hone in on an area to live, but to also check Sioux Falls as well (which was and has always been the plan). That is also why we work until insane hours to ready the house for sale.

Just another reason why I fell in love with this area! We haven't even been here a year yet and I have already experienced some amazing acts of kindness. I live in Hermosa and couldn't ask for a better group of neighbors. This is truly an amazing area with a lot of wonderful people. I'm so glad to be raising my family here!

Phone Update
Just a little update on the missing phone. Without any detail (because it was handled just beautifully), we were still awaiting its return (I would have run out and picked it up, but hubby knew better as he knows the chance of my return ).
Anyway, hope you can all stand more compliments. The little tiny problem was admitted to - no finger pointing - no, "hey, not my problem" attitudes - just wonderful admission of the problem and it has been fixed and the phone will be in our little hands sometime tomorrow!! Now, these people did not have to return it (let alone doing so for free)...just like the person(s) who found it didn't have to turn it in - they all easily could have said too bad, so sad. But, here again, handled beyond well.
Thanks again SD!!!

You know I've just been thinking here. The more that news gets out how nice people are here the more people may want to move here (saying this as someone who has lived here all of five days - cheeky, I know). Right now, I'd say Sioux Falls may be one of the nation's best kept secrets. We might run the risk of what happened when Oregon got overrun by Californians in the 1990s.
Yeah, keep telling people how bad the winters are.

Thread, I have been away from SD for years and still call it home. People do not believe me when I tell them it is one of the few places in this country that is still honest, friendly and they still help their neighbors without expecting anything in return. Of course, if they are in need the return will be there. Your word is your bond, but break it and it is hard to regain that trust. Hope you will come back again.

dlsmack - just wanted to say your post is really well stated - right on point with what we experienced during our too short visit - cannot wait for our turn to move to SD .
