Well, all in all it sounds like it is much cheaper than here in Nevada.
Debey, what is a wheel tax?

The 3% tax applies to purchase price or trade amount on a vehicle. On the registration there is a list of fees assessed on the vehicle.

Debey, we probably live in the same county. They started a wheel tax here of $2 per wheel a few years ago. It's just an added tax to generate revenue for the county.
It was in the paper several times and there was even a hearing on it, but very few people showed up so it was tacked on. THEN when people came in for renewals, they realized what happened and some were furious. Guess they should've read the paper.

Wow you guys weren't kidding. In a little over one hour today I transferred my car title, got my plates and registration AND got my new pretty SD driver's license. Total damage: $49.95
Can't wait to transfer my car insurance.
Oh one thing for newcomers, at least in Minnehaha County: for titles and plates they take only cash and local checks. The DL people took my out of town check.

And another bit of info that's not generally known. If all you have to do is renew your drivers license, you don't have to go to the zoo at Westport Avenue. You can go to the 2nd floor of the Minnehaha County Administration building and be out of their with your new license in about 20 minutes. Yes, you heard me right, about 20 minutes. They don't advertise this much, thus keeping it a place to go for those IN THE KNOW.

Yea, all my friends and my wife are from Minnesota where they have wait like 2 weeks to receive their licenses where we can just go down and get it in like 20 minutes or so.....
JMGG, you're saying that the courthouse has shorter lines than the one behind Target? That's weird last time I got my license the courthouse was about an hour wait or so and my wife got hers on a Saturday morning at the Westport one and it was like 20 minutes or so.....cool
