Default Scotty's, Aberdeen -- Name change

From the Aberdeen American News:

Quote:
The Scotty's name is gone, and the spaceships floating above the sign will also soon be gone.

As of Oct. 16, the name of the Aberdeen restaurant was changed to Daddy's Bar & Grill. Owner Pat Rohl changed the name “because I bought a liquor license and I want to attract more customers.” [mod cut] read rest of article, here: http://www.aberdeennews.com/apps/pbc...PAGE/910230386#
I get the reasons to change the business, but I really don't agree with the name change. By reading the comments on the AAN website, it looks like a lot of people are ticked.

They're changing the name? AHH! Scotty's is an Aberdeen classic. It just won't be the same.

Having been a retail store owner for over ten years (two different kinds of stores at the same time, though not a restaurant) I can tell you why they are changing the name as well as just adding a liquor license... They want to attract not only MORE customers, as the owner was quoted as saying in the newspaper, but they also want to attract a different KIND of customer. They are hoping the name change will bring in their current clientel as well as new customers, and they want to alert the public to the fact that something is different. It's a marketing thing.

Those of us from Aberdeen are still smarting from losing Lou's Pizza about 20 years ago. Lou's may have had the best pizza EVER! It was an Aberdeen original. On occasion, the former owner's son will come to Aberdeen from the Minneapolis area to bake Lou's Pizzas. I understand there are scores of people that line up to have another shot at the "za".

A number of my Facebook friends from Aberdeen were also recently lamenting the fact that Scotty's will change. I would stop in once or twice a year when back in Aberdeen and eat the classic Rebel Burger.

I have zero interest in ever going to what will now be Dad's or Daddy's. There are plenty of other bars in Aberdeen, but there will never be another Scotty's.

RIP Scotty's
