Watertown is a decent town, maybe 25,000 people or so. There would be plenty of outdoor things to do. It used to be around the fifth biggest town in the state, but not sure now. Laid back - check. I would have to think the cost of living would be much less than New York. I can't really help you with jobs and the schools, but good luck.

Default Watertown

I have lived in Watertown all my life. It is a wonderful little city. The schools are great with low class sizes. We have a population of around 22,000. One high school, one middle school and 6 grade schools, plus one Catholic grade school and one Luthern grad school and a Luthern high school. Like everywhere in the nation, we do have unemployment, but not has high and it seems to be improving. If you like gambling, we have alot of Indian Casinos. Our town has 2 wonderful lakes located minutes away. My husband is an avid fisherman, his is kept busy all year long. (Ice fishing in the winter is great in a shack). Plus all the other lakes within 60 miles. We are pretty laid back and honest. Here for gas, you pump then pay, I hear in the big cities you pay then pump. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I've also applied for a job in Watertown, SD and will be having an interview by phone in about an hour. Am wondering about the housing situation? Hoping to find a single-level home - with a basement - on a couple of acres outside of town. I just need the peace and quiet after work and school.

Hard to say - I THINK it went well but it was over the phone. Nice in one way - didn't have to worry about wearing the right look - but then you don't get to see people's facial expressions. It was a conference call with 2 people.
Problem is that they are looking for someone ASAP and I haven't even put my house on the market yet. This was the only job I had applied for. I should be finding out any day now if I have "graduated" onto another interview - which would be in person in Watertown.
I did get a chance to drive thru Watertown a few days ago on my way home from a meeting in NW MN. As much as I would have loved to have checked it out - I got there around 7:30 Wed nite after driving for more than 6 hours in lousy snowy weather - I had a good 5 hour drive ahead of me that turned into more than 6 again due to more snow and white out conditions - plus a piece of ice from another car blew into my windshield and cracked it!
My friends wonder why I would want to move to SD when I had such a miserable road trip. LOL!
