Not to defray you from your homestate, but have you considered a day trip to the Tetons in Wyoming or Yellowstone National Park? You could also go see Little Bighorn in Montana or spend the day in Cheyenne and the Front Range of Colorado. Laramie is also very beautiful. Just some other ideas for you to gnaw at.

Oh yeah, I've been looking into Devil's Tower, the Tetons, Minneapolis, western Nebraska, and other places too. Like my old home, (rural Texas) this is such a beautiful and wide-open land up here. It's just so MASSIVE! I have a feeling I won't run out of things to do or places to see while living in South Dakota.

Yea, it was closed for a few years when drive-ins went out of style in the late 70s or so. They re-opened it after a few years and are now marketing it as nostalgic and retro and classic. Kinda like a few of us.
