Unfortunately, we all still have to go to work on days like today. This morning it was actually 10 above with a windchill of zero. It was calm, but our dewpoint was so low. It actually felt decent outside. The blizzard is supposed to hit my area this afternoon around 3pm and we're supposed to have Minus 25 to Minus 35 windchills. I imagine that'll convince a few businesses to close early.
They shut the interstate down from Murdo to RC earlier and now I saw it's shut down all the way back to Chamberlain. Isn't winter just wonderful???

Hi Jammie. Same here we have to go to work on days such as you are getting. Rarely do things shut down up here because of the weather... Stay warm. They are predicting freezing rain here for this evening; ugh would rather have the snow.
Iam from texas now in rc I guess were still in shock about how much different it is up here in the winter so I just read what the locals are saying so I dont come out saying or asking stupid questions.
Oh Airboat, we won't think your questions or comments are stupid. You always seemed to fit in with us well, BUT I imagine that your first winter here is quite surprising. It would be for me. How is it different from what you expected? Snowier? Colder? Both?
Pat, I agree. I'd rather see snow then freezing rain. That stuff is SO dangerous!!! Of course, snow is, too. They just said there were already 76 accidents in Sx. Falls because of this mess. It'd be shocking to learn the state total of accidents when something like this comes through.
Mitchell actually closed some things up today. Our snow total is only 3 inches, but the winds have definitely come up. It's barely snowing here now, but it's not nice outside. Right now it's 8 with a minus 13 windchill. Not gonna be a pleasant night.
Thanks all. It feels good to have friends in here.I just talked to my mom in fl and shes complaining and it being 30 there. that sounds like a heat wave to me now. ps how much good does a block warmer do for my jeep?

They help a lot. We used to have them on our vehicles.
Florida has been VERY chilly right now. I'd still take their temps over ours, but even 50 deg. feels chilly down there.
We are supposed to get that storm starting tonight. We still have about 16 inches here. Christmas we got a lot of freezing rain/snow/rain mix so we didn't get it as bad as many others - but we have such a layer of ice under everything. My street is still covered.
We've had a very very cold winter so far. Today we finally got a heat wave - we got to 13 above. Yesterday was 4 above. The other day our high got to 6 below without counting the wind chill.
People around here don't know how to drive in snow anymore. Most cars I see still have about 6 inches of ice and snow from Christmas piled on them. Will be crappy driving in tomorrow - I get to meet with Personnel and find out officially when my job is over and how much my COBRA premiums will kill me. They'll probably also want to be reimbursed for the tuition payments they made for me last year. I can't wait to be done with them.
