Hello,

I have never been to South Dakota, but am looking forward to the journey. I am traveling from Missouri to Washington state around mid-Feb (16th or 17th) and wanted to get advice about road conditions.

I also want to visit Mount Rushmore, is it open year round? I also want to go by Sturgis, I know it's "off season" but I understand it's still has some very cool touristy type places, any suggestions?

Any other places along Hwy 90 cool to visit, I am taking my sweet time on this move.

I will be traveling on hwy 90., I already bought tire chains and brand new all season tires. I have a winter kit with spare water, blankets, flashlight some protein bars, a orange flag and a emergency cell phone charger.

Anything I am missing? Any guesses on how bad the roads might be? What areas are really bad or areas I should look out for?

Thanks for any advice, I am looking forward to travelnig through.

By the way, I will be staying in Sioux Falls, any advice on a hotel? I need a good place with secure parking.

If you go to Sturgis I would recommend hitting the Knuckle saloon since it is one of the locally ran/built places - they have a gift shop that neighbors the saloon/bar/rest. as well - I think the setting is more authentic and the memorabilia has been a work in progress for decades as opposed to some of the other places that were put together in a few months.

Rushmore is open year round - roads will be hit or miss - might be beautiful and 50 degrees, might be a blizzard - no way to know
