The International Space Station's Crown Jewel: The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer To Be Launched This Week. (Earth, universe)

[PITTSTON2SARASOTA]

Basically an advanced cosmic-ray detector the Aplha Magnetic Spectrometer will scan the Universe for Dark Matter, Antimatter and Particle properties including: mass, velocity, type, and electric charge.

The detector took 16 years to build at a cost of 1.5 to 2 Billion dollars and was nearly mothballed because of the Space Shuttle being retired from service. The AMS has a mass of seven metric tons and a enormous power consumption of 2,400 Watts.

The International Space Station is able to supply the tremendous power the detector requires, as well as periodic orbital reboosts and the AMS insures that the ISS will be conducting world class research.....in some ways the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer will do in space what the Large Hadron Collider does on Earth at CERN.

Launch date is set for April 29th if there are no Shuttle delays>>>>>>

A small amount of matter prevailed over antimatter during the Big Bang.....otherwise we would not be having this conversation.

However antimatter is continually produced by Cosmic forces but usually annihilated by contacting matter.

The spectrometer should answer a few questions and as it does inexoriably new questions will crop up.
