So was the moon formed by accretion as similar to the earth or was it blasted out of the earth from a cataclysmic collision as the film clip didn't mention that?
So is it thought that either the Earth or Moon would have been hit by a Mars-sized object?
I believe the theory (which isn't just a blind theory, it fits the data) is that roughly 4.5 billion years ago, the earth and the moon were one body, and that early earth was struck by a mars sized object which caused the ejection from the ancient earth of the material that coalesced to become the moon. Prior to that collision, there was no moon.

It's amazing how circular the orbit is. Unfortunately, we'll eventually lose the Moon. I wonder how that will effect things.
I tell my wife I'm getting younger. Hypothetically speaking, the tides would eventually cease to exist.
